This 45-minute class is the next step for the tiny dancer. This class offers a wonderful experience inviting young dancers to explore imagination and creativity through dance. An Introduction to Ballet and Tap are taught by focusing on rhythm and basic steps.

This 45-minute class is filled with Fun, Technique, and Teamwork. This is a combination class to help build timing and rhythm skills with poise and ballet technique.

At the Academy of Dance, we urge all students to select ballet as their basic dance form. Whether the student has professional aspirations or is merely dancing for enjoyment, ballet offers the basic discipline and technique necessary to succeed in all other dance forms. We offer ballet classes from levels 1 to Advanced. Our Ballet Instructors will evaluate each dancer and place them where they are best suited.
Levels I, II, III, Intermediate, Teen and Advanced offered. Intermediate level and Teen level please confirm with staff before registering. Advanced level requires prior teacher approval before registering.

Shoes: Pre-Pointe- pink ballet slipper // Pointe 1 - pink slippers and Pointe Shoes
Pre Pointe/Pointe is for the more experienced ballet dancer. These dancers must be at least 11 to 12 years of age and have studied 3 to 4 years of intense ballet. Beginners (Pre-Pointe) will be placed into Pre Pointe to focus solely on strength and technique while wearing soft soled ballet slippers. Dancers will only go en Pointe (Pointe 1) when the instructor sees they are ready. Once en pointe, dancers will continue in this level of pre pointe/pointe 1 training until the instructor determines they are ready to move to advanced pointe. This can be several years before and after pointe shoes.
Being invited to go en pointe is not determined by age. It is determined by our qualified trained ballet instructors who will determine when the dancer is ready to safely train en pointe.

Tap dance is all about the rhythm. Dancers will use their feet like drumsticks to create rhythms and music as they dance. Beginners will learn the fundamental steps and basic movements, and intermediate and advanced dancers will transform these basics into complex rhythmic choreography. This program emphasizes accurate rhythms, clear sounds and a thorough knowledge of tap terminology.

Jazz is a form of dance that showcases a dancer’s individual style and originality. This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, flexibility, big leaps and quick turns. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance. Jazz has become one of the most popular dance styles in recent years, mainly due to its popularity on television, movies and Broadway. Please note: All intermediate and advanced level jazz students must be enrolled in a ballet class to participate in the intermediate and advanced level jazz classes.

Lyrical is a fusion of ballet and jazz dance techniques. A lyrical dancer’s movements attempt to show the meaning of the music. Lyrical – meaning to have a poetic, expressive quality. Dancer must have at least 2 years of Ballet training to start at a beginning level Lyrical. Please note: All intermediate and advanced level lyrical students must be enrolled in a ballet class to participate in the intermediate and advanced level lyrical classes.
Beginning (offered as a combo class with lyrical - see description below), Intermediate and Advanced levels offered. Advanced levels, prior approval required before registering.
Beginning lyrical students should be at least 5 years old to register.

Contemporary: This very abstract style of dance requires the technique and discipline of classical ballet and the strength of jazz. Contemporary encourages natural, spontaneous movement and personal interpretation. It focuses on self-expression, awareness of space and body movement. Dancer must have at least 3 years of Ballet training to participate in our Intermediate/advanced Contemporary. All intermediate and advanced level contemporary students must be enrolled in a ballet class to participate in the intermediate and advanced level contemporary classes.
Modern: This class will incorporate many of the foundations of modern dance technique, including suspension and release, fall and recovery, the use of momentum and connecting breath with movement. Dancers will explore new ways of moving in combinations, floor work and partnering, and also in various methods of improvisation. We offer classes from beginning to advanced level.
Beginning/Intermediate level class and Advanced level class offered. Prior approval required before registering for the advanced level.

Character Jazz is a unique blend of ballet, modern, and jazz distinguished by its emphasis on exaggerated movements, high energy, and storytelling. This style of jazz incorporates turns, jumps, and kicks with an emphasis placed on athleticism, exaggeration, and high energy combinations.
This class is an advanced level class, and you must have prior teacher approval before registering.

Shoes: Black split sole hip hop shoes, tennis shoes or jazz shoes. **Please note street shoes should not be worn into the studio. Please have a dedicated shoe for class.**
Hip Hop is a form of dance that was once referred to as street dance and has now become mainstream. Students will learn rhythm and coordination through age-appropriate hip hop choreography.

Dress Code: Basic ballet attire is required or any color leotard with black tights is allowed. Hair in a neat secure bun. NO pants or t-shirts.
This Advanced Contemporary Ballet class will include many different techniques and conditioning skills to enhance the dancers’ abilities in ballet. One technique that will be taught is the “Progressing Ballet Technique” (PBT) “which is an innovative body-conditioning and strengthening program that has been designed to enhance students' technique by focusing on training the muscle memory required in each exercise in all forms of dance. It is a unique training system using ballet-technique specific exercises to train skill acquisition in advanced levels”. The goals of this class are to teach the students not only what proper form feels like in their bodies but also allow them to find proper alignment with different types of equipment to work on injury prevention and enhance their abilities in Ballet.
This is an ADVANCED LEVEL class and requires prior instructor approval to register.

Intermediate and Advanced requires prior teacher approval before registering.
Acro dance is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with acrobatic elements. Acrobatic elements include tumbling, contortion, and dance. Acro entails strength training and balance. Please note: All intermediate and advanced level Acro students must be enrolled in a ballet class to participate in the intermediate and advanced level Acro classes. **Certain elements/skills must be achieved to advance to the next level. Acro does not progress solely on age.

This fun and engaging class starts off the year working on acting and dancing technique. Students work on auditioning skills as well as prepare for a junior length show that is performed in the Spring. Auditions take place in the fall and the remainder of the season is spent on learning choreography and staging for the spring musical theatre show. This class works in conjunction with Beginning Vocal, where students will learn proper breathing and singing techniques, as well as rehearse the songs from the show. Students must be enrolled in either a jazz class in their perspective level, or Musical Theatre Dance class, as well as Beginning Vocal. For ages 7 and up (students must know how to read). **This class requires an additional Musical Theatre Fee that covers scripts, costumes, music, scenery, props and show rights**.
Prior to the fall auditions, there will be a mandatory student/parent meeting. Additionally, all students and parents must sign a performance contract that outlines rehearsal/show/recital expectations.

Vocal instruction is a technique class we use to help improve vocal range, endurance, stamina, resonance, proper posture and breathing control (singing from the diaphragm), vocal strength and the use of dynamics, and vocal quality. Learning how to sing properly allows the singer to perform well without fatigue or damage to the voice.

A stylized technique class for beginning to intermediate dancers that focuses on the dance moves most commonly used in Musical Theatre choreography. This class is for ages 7 and up.

A stylized tap technique class primarily for our Thespian competition team members. This class focuses on the breakdown and study of tap moves most commonly used on Broadway or stage!

The study of the different styles of dance used in Musical Theatre and its history. This class focuses on the characterization and musicality of Musical Theatre choreography and is for our Thespian competition team. For ages 7 and up based on audition results.

Class Structure: Alternating Ballet and Jazz warm up every other week with focus on technical elements from both disciplines every week.

Jazz/ lyrical combo is appropriate for ages 5-9ish.
This class is an introductory class that will teach students the fundamental elements of both Jazz and Lyrical techniques. Its combination class allows students to be exposed to multiple styles in one class which is more conducive to attention spans and physical development. They will develop musicality, body awareness and gross more development skills as well as primary techniques. These will expand and grow each week.
Geared for ages 5-8.5 years old
Dress Code: Leotard, tights, Hair in bun. Instructor will give more instructions on dress code requirements to students in class.
